Humankind thrives and astounds in its diversity. Features, beliefs, languages, recipes, abilities, faults; our remarkable and ever-evolving intricacies are inherent to what makes us and all before us construct and dismantle, flourish and wither, manifest and conceal. Yet for our intents and purposes, there are only two types of people amidst the panoply of humanity: those who pick their noses, and those who lie about doing so. Homo sapiens — among many others in the kingdom Animalia — have been exploring our own nasal cavities since we’ve developed dexterous fingers and open nostrils, and will continue doing so for however long we evolutionarily maintain these attributes. Due to the aforementioned uniqueness of our species, it is well understood that nose picking is not a monolithic craft in any shape or form, but the fact of nose picking’s existence and omnipresence is not worthy of further argument. To pick is a fundamental biological and inalienable right for all who inhabit this planet now and forever, inroads we have dutifully made since our mission’s coalescence. We remind you that we speak as an independent, purpose-driven entity with the best of intentions. A chosen family, forged over centuries from small chapters around the world; an organized, concerned coalition of passionate nose pickers of every denomination, nationality, color, creed and economic echelon. We are comprised of executives and entrepreneurs, bureaucrats and booksellers, chefs and chauffeurs, sergeants and shoe shiners, physicians and poodle-groomers, aged between 3 and 107. Each day, dozens of new pickers pick themselves and pick our cause. It is unfortunate that due to picking’s pervasiveness as a collective cultural taboo, we must withhold our identities at the risk of losing our livelihoods, yet hold our morals and convictions proud. We have no fundraising engine, maintain no specialty tax status, do not compensate board or chapter leadership, nor accept any partnerships with big healthcare, big pharma, big education, big personal home goods, or the nasal reconstruction industrial complex. We aim to speak as one, in our millennia of cumulative opinion, for a tomorrow where any and all can pick freely and responsibly. Historically, our work has confined to grassroots efforts out of the public eye, but in an age of contracting attention, passion, and the emergence of societally molding technologies, we feel there’s no more critical moment to make our presence and knowledge better known. As educators and empowerers first and foremost, we hope these foundational teachings and practice-sustaining principles can be of value no matter your age, stage, or awareness of your journey. Kindest regards, and happiest of picks, The collective voice of DIG | Deterministic Intranasal Guild & DIG - BOOGER | Board Of Olfactory Grazing Engagement Review January 2025
